The Colors of May: Finding Meaning, Finding Love

Human beings seem to have a natural fondness for assigning meaning to things. Is it because tracing a meaning makes it somehow easier to accept or to let go? Does giving meaning to trials make us resilient? Does finding meaning in pain help us mature? Does coloring the things we like with meaning allow us to love them even deeper? Or perhaps, we are simply creating reasons—weaving a magic spell to discover the inner core that hardens through trials, the courage that ripens through pain, and the capacity to love what we cherish even more.

Walking upon the rustling green leaves in the park, I feel the gentle, cool stroke of the May breeze. The vibrant, light-green leaves of the trees flutter softly, and the cloudless, clear sky looks exceptionally high today. I look up and ask the blue sky, which smiles down at me without asking for any reason: "Am I capable of loving? Am I worthy of being loved?" Perhaps the question is too heavy, for the sky merely answers with a silent, azure smile.

On my way home, I watch the many faces passing by. The world is filled with such a diverse tapestry of people living together. On the surface, I seem very different from them. Yet, we share one grand commonality: we are all living and loving in some shape or form.

Yes. Perhaps both giving and receiving love depend entirely on the state of our own hearts. We do not love because we have mastered the art of loving, nor do we receive love because we have earned the perfect right to it. It simply requires a sincere willingness within us to love someone, and a tender readiness to accept the love that comes our way. It is profoundly simple, yet beautifully difficult—the most exquisite thing in the world.

Maybe the blue May sky wanted to gently teach me how to love. It feels as though if I simply surrender my mind and body to the natural flow of things, everything will align beautifully. If assigning meaning to our lives makes our hearts softer, more resilient, and overflowing with love, then isn't it quite a wonderful thing to do?

Today, I continue to breathe meaning into the events of my life, embracing a steady inner core, a fierce courage, and a beautiful, full love. And here, in this very moment, I feel alive. I become the blue May sky, the rustling green leaves, the cool, gentle breeze, and the fresh, vibrant foliage. They breathe inside me, and I breathe as them. As I do, a warm, gentle river of joy begins to flow through my heart. Perhaps this, in its truest form, is what love really looks like.
