Baking Happiness: Sitting with the Night Sky

Sitting with the Night Sky
Sitting face-to-face with the night sky,
I feel the quiet darkness slowly, deeply
Settling into my heart.
The dense dark, which initially rushed in like angry waves,
Soon fills my inner self like soft, pliable dough.
Flowing like sweet velvet, this fine dough reminds me
Of the hourglass of our finite lives.
I throw the clear windows wide open
To welcome the vast darkness of the night sky.
I surrender myself entirely to the merciful touch of light,
Imbued with the warm breath of countless stars.
Spring and summer, autumn and winter,
Joy and sorrow, love and scars,
Expectation and disappointment, greed and frustration,
Anger and forgiveness, enlightenment and freedom—
I now realize that all these things are merely the expressions
Of different instruments playing within my heart.
For so long, I only looked at the darkness in the night sky,
Failing to truly see or feel all the seasons
Tucked inside the starlight.
That even in the midst of pain, trial, isolation, and loneliness,
I was never truly alone—
Only now have I awakened to this most precious gift.
Closing my eyes, I call to mind a presence deep within me,
One that gazes upon me and caresses me tenderly, like a lovely flower.
A presence like a comforting sunset,
Whose gentle smile paints the whole world with warmth.
As I do, the angry waves gradually subside,
And the soft, sweet dough is baked into a cake called happiness.
Surrounded by an enchanting aroma in the pitch darkness,
I light a small candle, and beneath its glow,
I see our mysterious eyes shining brightly like the flame.
Soon, bright white smiles are revealed as a song of joy rings out,
And even the hourglass stops its ticking to join the melody.
In that fleeting instant, the world overflows with a light of blessing,
Illuminating the night sky inside everyone’s heart.
From now on, in the night sky I face,
This very moment we shared will become a star, welcoming me with a fluttering heart.
And I will close my eyes, remembering the taste
Of that sweet, soft cake melting in my mouth.
This ecstatic and mysterious flavor swelling up to fill me completely
At this exact moment—this must be what happiness tastes like.
